John (Jack) Grater, Jr., CPA, MST
Jack has over 30 years of tax and accounting knowledge, expertise, and practical experience from both the business and government point of view. Jack's experience includes working for two of the "Big Four" accounting firms, two large regional accounting firms, and eight years as an IRS agent in the Large and International Business Division, working his last 3 years with the IRS as an international examiner. Jack previously taught in the Masters in Taxation program at Robert Morris University for over 10 years. Courses he has taught include Income Taxation of Individuals, Income Taxation of Estates and Trusts, Income Tax Accounting Problems and Procedures, and State and Local Tax Practice and Procedure.
Jack has worked with diverse clients from the small business owner to the multinational companies, in a wide variety of industries including manufacturing, service, medical, real estate and restaurants. His areas of emphasis are tax planning and compliance, mergers and acquisitions, entity structuring, and multi-state taxation for privately held and family owned businesses and their owners. He also provides management advisory and accounting services, including QuickBooks set-up and consultation.
Jack also volunteers as a coach and serves on the Board of Directors of Pittsburgh ICE, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to provide socially and economically disadvantaged boys and girls in the Greater Pittsburgh area the opportunity to learn to play the game of ice hockey.
